Attendance
Regular attendance helps children set good work patterns. Also, the continuity of regular attendance helps children stay oriented. In the event of an absence, please phone the school office and send a written note the next day so the absence may be marked "excused."
Illness
Children should be kept at home if they have any of the following symptoms: fever, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, unknown spots, a gooey runny nose, constant coughing or sneezing.
Arrival in the Classroom
Frequently, I allow children to enter the classroom early if they are ready to work. You will know they are invited to enter when you see a green circle in the door window.
It happens, especially during the early days, that some children have difficulty separating from their parents. It has been my experience that children generally stop crying and become interested in the other children and surroundings much more quickly if goodbyes are not long or drawn out. Please make your goodbyes quick, confident and cheerful at the classroom door. Reassure your child that you will return at a specific time and encourage him or her to come in to greet me. I will be in a chair near the door ready to receive each child.
Tardiness
It is best if your child enters the classroom at the first bell (8:25) so that he or she has ample time to settle belongings and greet classmates informally before class begins. We need to be settled together, as a class, by 8:30. If your child arrives after the second bell rings at 8:30, you will see a red light in the door window. Please take your child with you to the office to sign in, and remind him or her to quietly hand the tardy slip to the teacher. Your child must have a tardy slip to enter the classroom.
Tardy students often miss important announcements and lessons. Additionally, it is disruptive to the children who have begun to focus on their individual works because they want to stop and greet their friends.
Dismissal
The children need to say goodbye to the teacher before going to join the person picking them up. The teacher needs to see the children being picked up. If you don't see the teacher wave at you, please remind your child to tell his or her teacher.
If your child's dismissal routine changes, even for one day, we must have a note in writing.
